The Custom Card Purge

Hello Cardsmiths! Today we're announcing some immediate plans for a server cleanup that may affect your account or card collection. (Nothing to worry about if you are an active member.)
  • Any account that has not logged in since 1/1/2015, will have its cards removed from the archives. (The account and favorites will remain.)
  • Any account that has not logged in since 1/1/2015, that has never created a card, will be removed completely from the system.
We are taking these measures to clean up a total of 33,724 cards, in order to make room for the more active population of card creators (most likely you, dear reader!). This cleanup will take place on August 1st, so you have until then to log in and be counted as an active member.

This action will help us stretch capacity for another month or two. We'll probably continue looking back six months for activity, and any accounts that fall outside of that window will be cleaned up to save space for new/active members.

In other news, we're working on setting up a Patreon page to overcome the server troubles we currently face. More details on that in the coming weeks, thank you for your patience and patronage!

June Heat & Beach Party Results

Hello Cardsmiths! At long last, our crowdfunding campaign has come to a close. While we were unsuccessful in reaching our goal, we learned many things we can take and use as we continue forward. Thank you to all of our supporters and backers for your donations and inertia over the last month - we know it takes a lot of energy to campaign!

Some immediate outcomes:

  • Our top priority is keeping the servers running and open with enough space for new cards. We are looking at the possibilities and they are all pretty grim: they require removing cards for expired or potentially existing members. Example: in June, Cardsmiths made over 19,800 custom cards, or about 7GB worth. Our server has around 20GB of space remaining. The math here isn't pretty, so we're going to act on this soon. This may/may not be related to the recent abrupt outages we have been experiencing, we're still investigating.
  • We're going to have to find another way to revamp the design and build it out. As we mentioned in the campaign, this is our next priority for major development.
  • Custom Sets are on hold until the above issues are sorted or at least in progress.
  • We may be looking at alternative funding options in the future, but for now everyone should have a break, including the homepage - which has been reset.
  • We still want to get some playmats made, the artwork is too badass not to make it happen!

In other site news, our Beach Party Contest was a huge success, with 107 total entries - making it our largest site contest to date. Congrats to Xenthori on his winning entry: Goblin Sea Raiders. To view the full contest results and judge's rulings, view the Beach Party contest results.
Congrats to our winners, and thanks to everyone who participated! If you missed it, be sure to check out the submissions. Finally, a big shout out to our judges, Beeswax, Callous, and Suicidal_Deity for their tremendous reviews!

Last but not least, we've added new set symbols just in time for the upcoming Magic Origins release. We hope you will find them worthy.

Stay frosty.

MTG Custom Card Sets

Hey all, we've been getting a few questions about our crowdfunding campaign and the new features we want to roll out. So I wanted to take some time and show some more details about the upcoming Custom Card Sets feature we've been working on.

Here is a brief walkthrough of how managing custom sets will work. On the My Sets homepage you can view all of your sets, create a new set, and edit/delete an individual set's basic info. Clicking into a set will take you to the Edit Set page, where you can add your cards (auto-search), reorder the cards within the set, and remove unwanted cards. Instead of loading all images for cards at once, each card image will appear if you over over the card title.

We hope you like what you see, please keep in mind this is a work in progress and things may change over time. You can, however, help us bring this feature to the site, but supporting our ongoing crowdfunding campaign! We can't build these new features without you, and here is your chance to help.

The Next Level: Our Crowdfunding Campaign

Last month, MTG Cardsmith turned four years old. It's been an honor to watch the site grow from that first little generator into the thriving community we have today. We've come a long way, but I believe we can do so much more.

Today, we are launching our own crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. We want to build out the next major version of MTG Cardsmith, and we need your help.

Read the full details!

Update: Every donation makes a big impact here. Even just $5 will go a long way to helping us reach our goals. If each visitor to the site for just one day gave $5, our campaign would be funded instantly!

The Bright Month Ahead

Hello Cardsmiths! I wanted to take a brief moment to drop some knowledge about the next few weeks and months for MTG Cardsmith. We've been watching the site continue to grow, and give a big thanks to our community members for keeping it clean and helping new members out where possible. The more members, the more ideas, and the larger collection of truly awesome custom MTG cards.

Over the next two weeks we will be launching our very own MTG Cardsmith crowdfunding campaign! We've got some big goals that we want to accomplish and need your help to make them happen. We're so excited to show you what we've got in store for the site and the community! More details to follow very shortly.

Quickly after that kicks off, we really want to spin up the Great Contest Machine once more. Full contest details to be revealed soon... just don't forget your swimsuit! ;)

So there you have it, its going to be a busy summer - we hope you will join us for the ride!
